How do we honor Juneteenth? Through learning, connection, and community care. June's Shared Stories event gathers people for an evening rooted in Black history, culture, and shared reflection, created in close partnership with Sema Hadithi. Designed collaboratively with community leaders, the program centers on education, storytelling, and meaningful engagement.
Connect with Black-operated organizations and community-centered groups whose work uplifts and strengthens Salt Lake City and beyond through vital resources, advocacy, and support. Together we'll share food, stories, and resources. Afterward, Robert Burch of Sema Hadithi will guide us through an interactive educational exhibit, inviting participants to engage directly with history and its present-day impact.
A screening of the PBS documentary I Am She: The Matriarch of America will follow, celebrating the powerful contributions of African American women and the collective efforts of communities who have led through grassroots movements, community building, and social justice advocacy. Together, we will create space to learn, connect, and honor the resilience, leadership, and ongoing impact of those who continue to uplift our community.
Seating is limited. Please RSVP to Jessica Rasekhi at jrasekhi@pbsutah.org by June 16th.
