Day-to-day Needs Qtr 1
Project Details
Sema Hadithi Foundation strives to tell the story of African-ancestored history, heritage, & culture by researching, preserving, and sharing information throughout the community. Sema Hadithi means to tell the story. In sharing the story of African ancestor families, we help tell the whole story of Utah.
Donations help meet day-to-day operational needs:
Bookkeeping, software, marketing, audio/video equipment, legal fees, licensing, subscriptions, office supplies, printing, equipment maintenance, rentals, salaries/wages (non-production), scanning equipment, travel/vehicle, Internet, subscription
These are key product milestones we hope to hit in the next year:
produce a graphic novel of Buffalo Soldiers that served in Utah
produce year-end research reports of the work produced by five working groups
produce research journal
Conduct 36 - 50 oral history interviews
Create educational toolkits of posters, story cards, activity books, pencils, fact sheets, and pins for children
At the end of the year, we hope to have established strong ongoing relationships with other genealogical and historical-based organizations like museums, lineage societies, university partners, celebration centers, and public arts and humanities councils. Partnering with other organizations increases community penetration and delivers educational material effectively.
Sema Hadithi Foundation measures its community impact over the year through the many partners with which it collaborates. These are organizations throughout Utah. They provide primary anecdotal evidence that has benefited from a program or service. Feedback is from staff receiving comments from the community. We engage the community through speaking events and conferences like the Family Day event for the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the Utah Museum Association Annual Conference, and the Albuquerque Genealogical Society.
Sema Hadithi Foundation's ultimate goal is to build a permanent institution with a permanent physical location to provide ongoing public access to the foundation's resources. We will continue to build a secure interactive website. We have found one of the best ways to reach the public has been through collaboration with organizations like ours. Sustained presence necessarily means producing public programming in the form of speaking opportunities, exhibits, research and collection collaboration, festivals, publications, and other materials like educational toolkits, brochures, flyers, and video productions.
